      Haha, wow, this sounds like a question in a job interview!

      So, my research lets us look for stuff in data that no-one has really been able to see before. For example, I found some evidence of the rippling surface of a star which hadn’t been measured before.

      Since I don’t know what my work will uncover in the data, it’s difficult to say what the real world applications are, although I think that what I do could actually be applied to the stock markets, to make me lots of money :p
