• Question: when lightning hits the sea why don't the fish die?

      They do die! it depends on how far they are from where the lightning strikes.

      Maybe they die? Water is good conductor, so the electricity would spread quickly. So maybe only the fish very close to the strike point die.

      Lightning doesn’t penetrate very far into the sea: it tends to skate along on the surface. Therefore fish near the surface do die, but the sea is very deep so most fish don’t even notice the lightning!
