• Question: Is it true that we can witness the big bang?

      We are getting closer and closer to seeing further back in time. We can see ripples in space that come from mere moments after the big bang. We’ll never be able to see the big bang itself, but we’re not doing too bad!

      On Earth, we have big atom smashers that recreate the conditions even closer to the big bang, making all kids of interesting particles in the process!

      No, it is false. There was only one Big Bang. We can not witness that, as it already happened 13.7 billion years ago. What we study at CERN is sometimes called by the media as new Big Bangs. That is false. It is in fact producing how the Universe was shortly after the Big Bang.

      Unfortunately no, we can’t witness it, we can see what the universe was like immediately after though, using CERN
