      Hi Kat,

First of all, I would recommend you to finish school, go to University for your BSc, maybe do an MSc, and then apply for a Ph.D. if research is really your passion.

I am aware there are commercial and industrial positions available for graduates with a bachelor’s degree, however, most scientists have at least a master’s and more likely a doctorate degree. Graduate programs are more focused on toward original research and development of new theories, working with a professor or other scientists, and might imply using cutting-edge technology.

I know it is a long journey, the key is to study in the scientific field that most interest you, have dedication, to be diligent and persevere and to not be discouraged 😉

You have to study science. Get good grades at all levels. First in high school. Then at university (bachelor level). Then at master level. Then at PhD level. Then you can work as a scientist either in an university, in a research lab, or in a company. This process is not easy. You must be driven by curiosity, and not by making money. You must study hard. There are so many cool facts about the Universe. But if you are curious, then it will seem easy.

If you enjoy looking at fire, playing with magnets, gazing at the stars, building lego, interacting with animals… generally are curious about the world, then you can be a scientist. Studying hard and learning equations is one part, but the most important bit is curiosity!
