• Question: Do you ever feel like you have come to a stand still with your work and you want to give up?

      Yes! Last year I went through a personal problem and I did not want to hear about deadlines, experiments or anything else.
      It might happen to have a period like this and you need to put yourself first and decide what is best for you.

      Things going wrong is inevitable. Either equipment breaks, you lose some data, you don’t get the result you’re looking for, or you just don’t know what to do next! Often a break where you completely stop thinking about work is the best thing. When you get back to it you’ll have a fresh mind and hopefully some new ideas 🙂

      As I write code for my work, it is frustrating when the code does not behave as expected. We call it that is has a bug. But with perseverance, the bug is found and the code behaves well. Computers are deterministic, after all, and only do what they are programmed.

      I’ve felt like that more than once, but part of being a good scientist is carrying on regardless 🙂
