The earth will end for sure in a few million years, when our sun puffs up and swallows us.
Before then, unless we get really unlucky and something big hits us (that would be really really unlucky), then even if all the humans die, the earth will be perfectly happy chugging along without us
The Earth is pretty sturdy. Once upon a time it got hit by something the size of Mars and survived… along gained a brand new Moon! It would take an awful lot to destroy the Earth. One day a long time from now the Sun will swallow up the Earth, but that’s pretty much it.
The things ON the Earth are a lot more fragile! Life could be wiped out by ice ages, meteors, volcanoes, global warming, war, famine, plague… But Earth itself just won’t care and will happily carry on spinning 🙂
There are many many stars in the galaxy that we can use to compare with out own. We have a very good idea of the life cycle of a star – from birth to death. Stars like ours go through a well-understood process whereby they run out of fuel, expand REALLY big and red (eating all the rocky planets up on the way) and eventually leave behind a tiny white dwarf star where the Sun used to be.

In about 5 billion years, when the Sun dies. But not before.
